The effect of management information systems on business process

Abstract

This study focused on how Management Information Systems (MIS) facilitate business processes, mainly Accounting and Finance, Human Resources, Manufacturing, Sales and Marketing to attain efficient decision making in Centenary Bank. This research explores the extent to which management information systems implemented to make successful decisions Literature reviewed showed that in the initial stages of its development, management information systems (MIS) main purpose and usage was to improve the efficiency of business and office activities. It was used to store business and personnel data, and focused on data entry and collation, rather than data transfer or analysis. The research adapted the both qualitative and quantitative approaches of data collection. Proportionate stratified sampling and later systematic sampling techniques were used to select 50 respondents (subject to a non-response rate of 10%), with objectives including; to find out the effect of decision support systems on the business process, examine the effect of enterprise resource planning systems on business process and to examine how transaction processing systems affect business process. The results of the research showed that MIS was primarily used to enhance business processes, there is a high relationship between business process and transaction processing systems. Finally, recommends that organizations, both private and public; commercial and non‐commercial should endeavour to set up an MIS in their organizations so that adequate information can be put at the disposal of their management to facilitate business processes
