dc.description.abstract | This paper aims to identify the key issues that employee motivation impacts on their performance in institutions in Uganda. This paper is focusing on the effect of employee motivation on employee performance in health institutions like Nkozi hospital. This paper reveals that a number of motivational factors like rewards, task goal settings and training among the others have affected the employee performance in Nkozi hospital. These study objectives were looked; To find out the effect of rewards on the employee motivation and employee performance in health institutions like Nkozi hospital, To determine the role of task goal setting on the employee motivation and employee performance in health institutions like Nkozi hospital and To investigate the influence of training on the employee motivation and employee performance in health institutions like Nkozi hospital. Vroom’s Expectance theory and Goal setting motivation theories are used in the study as the researcher saw them relevant to the study. An empirical study was conducted and data was collected through the use of questionnaires to find the results. Findings of this study suggest arranging and adopting more effective employee motivation programs and techniques in order to give the progressive shape to the results achieved through this study. Limitations of this conceptual study are that it covers a few aspects of motivation factors like rewards, task goal settings and training. Further implications of the study should highlight some other factors which can strengthen the result. The paper reveals rewards and training as the highly motivating factors and the majority of the female health workers are more willing to increase their productivity if rewards are extended to them. The question of what motivates employees to perform effectively is not an easy one to answer but this paper seeks to find valid answers to the question. According to this paper, lack of motivation in institutions can be partly evidenced by the low productivity of employees, shortage of workers, and high rate of turnover by older staff. By emphasizing the importance of efficiency and effective job performance by the top management while providing the necessary motivators to employees, institutions can highly benefit from the employees’ high productivity. This paper therefore recommends that motivation should be management’s top most priority in order for employees to deliver excellent service to its valued patients in the Nkozi hospital. | en_US |
