On job training and employee performance in the financial Institutions
Abstract
The study was entirely focused on a major objective of establishing a relationship between On
Job Training and employee performance within DFCU bank in Uganda. The research aimed to
find out the following objectives: To investigate the effect of Coaching on Employee
Performance, to examine the effect of Job Rotation on Employee Performance, to determine the
effect of Mentoring on Employee Performance. The study employed a case study research design
using a self-administered questionnaire as a tool for data collection from a population of 70 out
of which 61 respondents were accessed. The responses generated from the field survey were
analyzed and manipulated into tables with the aid of the social package for social scientists
(SPSS) version 21 and Microsoft excel. Study findings revealed that there was a positive and
significant relationship between Coaching and employee performance generating a correlation
coefficient of magnitude (r = 0.933**). There was also a significant relationship between Job
Rotation and employee performance as well as Mentoring and employee performance each
generating a positive coefficient of magnitude (r = 0.924**) and (r = 0.952**) respectively. The
study concluded that these findings were quite consistent with those of past researchers on a
similar topic and hence considered the research survey a success. The study finally comes up
with some key recommendations that may be helpful to relevant stake holders such as; training
of staff members, evaluation of employees, improving on the working environment.
