dc.description.abstract | The study explored the role of income generating activities,
in the economic empowerment of women in Moruita Sub-County.
This study was guided by the following objectives: (1) to
determine the role of Farmer Field Schools in the improvement
of women’s income in Moruita sub-county; (2) to establish the
role of Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLAs) in
improving women’s access to assets and resources in Moruita
sub-county and (3) to find out the contribution of small scale
business in enhancing women’s financial decision making in
Moruita Sub-County.
A descriptive cross sectional study design involving 47 women
was used. Data was collected through focused group
discussions; key informant interviews; document reviews and
unstructured questionnaires. The data was arranged orderly,
sorted according to the tools used and analyzed using
systematic method.
The findings of the study revealed that: well-established
income generating activities greatly contributed to the
success of women’s economic empowerment programs. There was a
marked increase in women’s household income, through Farmer
Field Schools and Village Savings and Loan Associations
(VSLAs). However, the empowerment has not contributed to
access and control of household assets and resources as well
as women’s financial decision making.
Therefore, the researcher recommends the Non Government
Organizations and the local leaders in Moruita Sub-County; to
design a better resolve conscientious program such as women
empowerment. This is to bring out the aspect of equal decision
making and to ensure that both man and women have access to
and control of household assets and resource management | en_US |
