Assessing the effect of domestic violence on socialization process among girls in primary schools; A case study of St. Lawrence Kigowa Primary School
Abstract
The study aimed at assessing the Effect of Domestic Violence
on Socialization Process among girls in primary schools in St.
Lawrence Kigowa primary school. The study objectives were; To
establish the effect of domestic violence on the socialization
process of girls in St. Lawrence Kigowa primary school; To
examine the extent to which domestic violence affects girl‟s
socialization process in St. Lawrence Kigowa primary school
and To find out a way of addressing domestic violence in St.
Lawrence Kigowa primary school.
The study employed a quantitative and qualitative research
paradigm in which a case study research design was employed to
collect data from 50 (fifty) respondents using structured
questionnaires, and interviews.
The study found out that domestic violence has caused
emotional and psychological trauma, anxiety and fear, physical
injury to the girls, sexual abuse, eating disorders and
victims of domestic violence are also filled with tension. It
was also exposed domestic violence has affected girls‟
socialization process and it has resulted into girls‟
aggressiveness to schoolmates, withdraw from others and
overall functioning, attitudes, have been from the study it
was also discovered that domestic violence can be prevented
through making school‟s policies and procedures for child
protection explicit, teaching safe relationships providing
social support to the victims of domestic violence, school community teams and domestic violence advocacy groups
The study recommended that the community should organize a
group of people and dedicate to specifically focus on the
culprits of domestic violence and put efforts in taking those
who practice domestic violence to court. School leaders should
organize educational programs through which children can be
taught on ways being free from domestic violence. This will
highly prevent the risk of on being a victim of domestic
violence.
