dc.description.abstract | The general objective of this research was to establish the
challenges faced by the disabled children in pursuing formal
education in Arapai sub-county in Soroti district. The specific

among the children, to establish the level of enrolment of the

formal education in Arapai sub-county Soroti district.
The study generally employed the qualitative and quantitative
approach which involved the use of instruments such as
questionnaires, interviewguides and focus group discussion guides
for the collection of the data in the field.
Research findings revealed that the common disabilities that exist
are loss and limited use of limbs (lame), difficulty in hearing
(deaf) and difficulty in seeing (blind).the research also found
out that there is a low level of enrolment of CWDs which has been
attributed to the challenges which are socio-cultural, economic,
school related and policy environment which exists within the
district.
The study concludes that the high level of illiteracy among the
CWDs has been facilitated by the challenges that they face in an
attempt to pursue formal education which has left them unable to
exploit their inner most potential | en_US |
