Abstract
The advent of web applications into the computing world has brought about a significant
revolution in the business world including changing the traditional ways of how organizations or
companies carry out and monitor their business transactions. Many companies are beginning to
re-evaluate their traditional methods and have considered doing and monitoring their business
activities by use of Business Information Systems. Benson (2008) argues that effective
information management determines the success of virtually in every business operation.
This research project therefore set out to study the integration of information systems in the
running and monitoring of business activities for passengers and transport companies. The
current business processes were studied and these helped the researcher to develop a web-based
system. The system is meant to ease the way how passengers can be guaranteed of safety and
also help the management of the Municipal Staff and transport companies to easily monitor their
business activities. This helps customers in saving their time and also helps the management in
reliable and timely access to information that supports their decision-making process.
Mbarara Municipality Tax Park was used as a case study. Data about the way business is
currently being done and monitored was collected using interviews, and observation to ascertain
how the existing system is being used and the challenges being faced by the people using it. The
design for the real-time web system was done and the system later developed and tested.
If adopted, the developed system will go a long way in helping to iron out the challenges that
were identified during the data collection and analysis stage.
