Orientation and the performance of employees in an organization:
Abstract
This paper examines the orientation methods used in organisations and the performance of
employees in the organisation. The literature sources used in this paper are books, journals, and
internet. Literature confirmed that training of manpower is a major prerequisite for any
organization that wants to achieve maximum productivity through the efficient and effective
performance of employee. An employee can only perform better through the acquisition of
skills, knowledge and ability from training program. This study attempts to find out whether
Informal Human Resource Training has any implication in job performance, behavior, attitudes,
skills, knowledge and achievement of the goals of a business organization. The objectives of the
study were to: to determine the role of orientation on the performance of employees, to examine
the key policies, investigate the employee benefits offered at organisations, explain the specific
expectations of the new employees which as a result leads to high performance of employees.
This study will be a significant endeavor in promoting good work environment in the workplace
and motivations of the employees. The sample size was determined on the basis of simple
random sampling were employees who were grouped into three categories of staff namely:
general staff, senior staff and management staff and the sample was of 30 respondents. The
study dealt with a population of 100 employees and the researcher used both qualitative and
quantitative methods to collect data.
The study shows that effective orientation leads to acquisition of skill and knowledge required
for employee to perform effectively on the job. It was also revealed that orientation has a high
positive impact on employee. Finally, the paper made recommendations, which aimed at
improving the job performance of employees with regard to orientation
