| dc.description.abstract | The study investigated the impact of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on Students’ Learning in institutions of higher learning in Uganda using a case study of Uganda Martyrs University – Rubaga Campus. Both qualitative and quantitative methods of research where employed during the study using questionnaires to collect data from students and teachers.
From the study, it was found out that the availability of ICT tools and resources is still wanting in most institutions of higher learning in Uganda; this was evidenced by shortage computers, projectors, slow internet, lack of computer laboratories, inadequate space in ICT facilities, and many other challenges which limited students from accessing ICT tools and resources in the University. From the study, it was revealed that most of the students could not use the different ICT tools and resources comfortably, most of them could not use Microsoft word, they had poor typing skills and many others, Such characteristics limited students from fully utilizing the available ICTs in the learning institutions, Only a smaller parentage of students would comfortably use ICT, It was also discovered that the biggest percentage of lecturers would comfortably use the different ICTs to search for information, communicate through e-mails and many others, From the study it was revealed that some one’s ability to use the different ICTs does not mean that it will facilitate on his or her own learning since some students and teachers preferred teaching and learning with old methods such as using a chalk board, library and many others, the study also found out that some students completely use ICTs for different tasks which are not academic such as sports betting, watching movies, music, pornography and many others, In such cases, it was found out that ICT may not facilitate students’ learning. Basing on the study results, and findings, it was established that to a larger extent ICT facilitates students’ learning in institutions of higher learning in Uganda, This can be through providing access to information, aiding learning in class through demonstrations on projectors and many others as talked about in this research study report. | en_US |
