dc.description.abstract | The study assessed the contribution of capacity building on employee performance in National
Water and Sewerage Corporation with specific emphasis to National Water and Sewerage
Corporation Lira Branch.
The data in this study was Primary Data and it was collected through a three-paged structured
questionnaire and one-paged interview guide administered to a purposively selected group of
Employee of NWSC, Domestic Consumer, Commercial Consumer and
Institutional/Governmental Consumers of NWSC Lira Branch. The study used both quantitative
and qualitative methods of data analysis, with help of Statistical Package for Social Scientist
(Version 16.0).
The study found out that 87.4% of the respondents said that staff training affects employee
performance in NWSC. It also found out that 79.3% of the respondents said that to a great extent
capacity building improves employee performance in NWSC. The study further found out that
83.9% respondents affirmed that there are strategies to enhance capacity building for employee
performance in NWSC
Chi-Square Test was performed and the result revealed that staff training, capacity building and
strategies of capacity building are related to employee performance because the two sided
asymptotic significance of Pearson Chi-Square for all the three variables affirm that capacity
building is related to employee performance in NWSC. On the same note, the two sided and one
sided fisher’s Exact test of all the three variables also confirm the same.
The study recommended that all corporations should have training policy which will provide a
practical framework within which all employees will acquire the necessary competencies to
perform their duties. The study also recommended the need for periodical advisory and support
discussion between staff members and management in corporations. Finally, the study
recommended an effective alignment of employee goals to corporations’ objectives and a
successful career development process should facilities development in corporations. | en_US |
