| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of the study was to assess the contribution of Uganda women empowerment
program on household income in Katikekile Sub County in Moroto district, Uganda. The study
was based on a descriptive research design that was intended to inform the current status of
women empowerment and household income. The study was conducted among 331 households
covering 5 parishes and 33 villages who were purposively and randomly selected from a study
population of 2,238 households. Using questionnaires and interviews, both qualitative and
quantitative data were collected, which was analyzed with the help of SPSS 20.0. Using multiple
regression, political empowerment was found to be significant in predicting the level of
household income while social empowerment and economic empowerment were found to be
insignificant in predicting household income. Basing on zero order correlation, the study
concluded that Uganda empowerment program bears a weak effect on household income in face
of political and social actors. In recommendation, government and other development partners
should consider investing in education of women in Karamoja to equip them with employable
and business skills. Financial institutions should relax their requirements before extending credit
to the rural poor women. There is need for a study with a wider scope, which covers both men
and women as men have a key role to play in supporting women’s contribution to household
