Automated Payroll System (APS); case study: Pepper Publications Limited
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the gaps facing companies and organisations in
developing countries in function of payroll processing and management. Research has been
carried out by many scholars including Heeks and Hevnar in identifying the functionality of
information system in the developing countries. The results have been evaluated to show
that a few of the Information Technology projects in developing countries do not meet their
defined goals thus leading to failure.
The use of Information Technology is seen to bring about development in many sectors both
in private and public companies. Worldwide the use of information technology has been on
the rise and being embraced of recent in developing countries because of factors that range
from capital and human resource availability to adapt with the advancing technology. There
is a need of all organisations, companies both public and private, governments in the
developing world to identify the best ways and opportunities on how they can use
Information technology and in particular Information systems for development purposes.
This research focused on the Payroll processes which deal with paying employees their
salaries. Most companies in developing countries are growing in operation and capacity
necessitating employing more employees, who need to receive the best services that boost
their morale hence a need for a system that satisfies most of the employees working
conditions especially those in small or medium sized companies in developing countries.
The research identified the gaps in the payroll processes with companies in developing
countries and came up with a solution of automating the processes with a functionality that
would send messages to employees in case a payslip is created and management is able to
make first effective decisions based on accurate data that is generated through reports that
are even statistical.
