dc.description.abstract | Many of the SMEs in Uganda do not engage in networking through their entrepreneurs which
is commonly caused due to lack of social capital and personal entrepreneurial skills. Studies
have shave indicated that SMEs do play a key role in fostering economic growth, generating
employment opportunities and reducing poverty (Arinaitwe; 2006). In Uganda, SMEs have
further proven important to be entities which have continued to play a critical role in the
economic development of Uganda. The study was about the contribution of entrepreneurial
skills on the performance of small scale businesses in Owino market and was guided by three
objectives which included Identifying Leadership skills, Marketing skills and financial skills
and their impact on business performance. The study used a case study design and applied
qualitative data. The study also used correlation approaches to establish the relationships
amongst the study variables. A sample of 63 respondents was used and the findings were
analyzed using SPSS. The data was presented using tables and frequency tables. The study
established the relationship between entrepreneurial skills on the performance of Small scale
businesses in Owino.
The study made several recommendations among which was that government has to come in
and work on the quality of infrastructure to create more space for its entrepreneurs, financial
training and financial support through Micro- finance institutions and government programs
