On-job training and employee performance of an organization
Abstract
The study was entirely focussed on a major objective of establishing a relationship between On
Job Training and employee performance within DFCU bank in Uganda. The case study area for
the study were branches of DFCU that are located in Ndeeba and Namasuba. Under On job
training, dimensisons that were considered for examination were Job Orientation, Job Rotation
and Coaching & Mentoring. On the other hand under employee performance elements that were
considered included productivity, efficiency & effectiveness in delivery and timeliness. The
study was guided by specific objectives that focussed on establishing the different relationships
that existed between these different variables. The other moderating variable that affected the
main relationship constituted of elements such as attitude, motivation and job satisfaction. All
these variables were conceptualized into a model that showed how they interacted with each
other. The study employed a self administered questionnaire as a tool for data collection. The
responses generated from the field survey were analyzed and manipulated into charts, tables, and
graphs with the aid of the social package for social scientists (SPSS) and microsoft excel. Study
findings revealed that there was a positive and significant relationship between Job Orientation
and employee performance generating a correlation coefficient of maginitude 0.359. There was
also a significant relationship between Job Rotation and employee performance as well as
Coaching & Mentoring and employee performance each generating a positive coefficient of
magnitude 0.484 and 0.431 respectively. The study concluded that these findings were quite
consistent with those of past researchers on a similar topic and hence considered the research
survey a success. The study finally comes up with some key recommendations that may be
helpful to relevant stake holders such as; training of staff members, evaluation of employees,
improving on the working environment, and availing workers with more autonomy
