Assessment of the effect of motivation on employee performance in the banking sector
Abstract
The main purpose of the study was to establish the effect of motivation on employee performance in the banking sector. The study was guided by the following objectives: To examine the motivation practices, to examine factors affecting employee performance in SBKRB and to establish the relationship between motivation and employee performance. The study was carried on using a detailed literature review thereby analyzing what various authors have written about the topic. This was done by looking into different books. Data was collected using tools like a self administered questionnaire and interviews. The study was conducted using 70 respondents among employees and management of the bank .The results from the findings indicated that majority of the respondents were females in the institution and were in the age group between 31 - 50years who were married. The results indicated that wages and salaries increase in Piece rate wages, fringe benefits and work bonuses are motivational factors for employees in an organization and that having a clear knowledge of organizational, structures by employees and working environmental are factors that affect employee performance in an organization. Finally, there is a significant relationship between employee motivation and performance in an organization. A number of recommendations where suggested such as It is recommended that the organizations should establish a positive work environment and give the employees opportunities to learn and grow through trainings and capacity building initiatives.
