Corporate sustainability and performance of business organisations in Uganda
Abstract
This research seeks to examine the relationship between corporate sustainability (CS) and performance of business organizations in Uganda. The research basically focuses on environment engagement, community engagement and employee engagement in the business world as elements of CS and how they contribute to performance of an organization. In spite of existing company regulation encompassing legislative framework and guidelines which govern corporate activities, the lack of sound corporate sustainability practices (Environment sustainability, social sustainability, community engagement and employee engagement) has partly led to organizational failures in the Ugandan economy
The research is done because organizational performance is demonstrated by having a good business reputation, profitability, transparency, increase in sales, customer retention, and employee retention, which independently cannot lead to better business performance if they are not practical and consistent.
The organization to be analyzed in this research is Uganda Martyrs University-Nkozi as its participation in CS activities is significant and evident in activities like sponsoring sports events of the University, equal treatment of staff (both lecturers and administrators) giving out bursaries to talented students in different sports, giving of awards to best students and best performing employees in various departments and this has made it to be regarded among the fast growing organizations in Uganda in academia.
The research is intended to help most organizations that have embraced the issue of corporate social responsibility to continue and sustain their corporate activities which in the long run increases the reputation of the organization, sales, customers and help in retaining of employees in an organization.
