    The effect of appraisal methods on academic staff performance

    Abstract
    The study was conducted to establish the effect the effect of appraisal methods on academic staff performance with specific reference to Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi as the case study. The research objectives were to establish the effect of 360 degree feedback appraisal method on staff performance in Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi, to determine the effects of past job experience on staff performance in Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi and to establish the relationship between self-appraisal and staff performance in Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi. The study was carried out using qualitative and quantitative study designs. The researcher worked with a sample size of 118 respondents which was obtained out of the entire population of 172 academic staff members as determined using mathematical tools to derive the sample size. Questionnaire method was administered by the researcher so as to obtain data from the field. The data was analysed so as to populate the data to easily obtain inferences on the relationship between appraisal systems and organisational performance. The researcher made recommendations which include that the University should give updates on their appraisal methods results to the staff members and involve the students more in the appraisal system as well as use more various methods to carry out the evaluation of their academic staff members.
